I’m Kris Haukoos,  I’m a Florida native and currently live in Mount Dora, Florida.  I have over 20 years of experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.  For 15 of those years I have had the joy of caring for children in Lake County, Florida. I have a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Florida.  I have also completed my Post-Masters of Science in Nursing at Florida Atlantic University. I am nationally board certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP) and a pediatric mental health specialist (PMHS) through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.

I am passionate about providing age-appropriate care to children and teens.  My adolescent clients need a different approach than those who are young children. I believe care should be tailored to the individual and not one-size-fits-all.  This is especially important in my approach to pediatric and adolescent care.  I am also passionate that newborn and

infant care should be supportive of the family in addition to the baby.  Patient and parent education is a large part of my practice as an informed parent is a less anxious parent. This philosophy helps to build a collaborative relationship with the families I serve as their input is valuable and respected.

In my non-working life, I have been married to Dana since 1997.  We share three children and a hyperactive Boston Terrier.  I enjoy hiking, knitting, road tripping around the U.S., and obsessing over college football.

Newborn & Infant Care

Newborns and infants are seen in their own home. Your baby will get a head to toe check-up including height, weight, and you will have time to discuss your child’s growth and development. House calls are also a time for mom or dad to ask any questions they have.  Extra time is included for talking about what to expect and developmental milestones to look for in the coming months. I welcome all families and am also comfortable caring for babies born in hospitals, birthing centers, or at home.

Toddlers & Young Children

Children are seen in their own home.  Your child receives a head to toe check-up including height, weight, and assessing their development. Your child can play and, when possible, I’ll try to add their playtime to their check-up (letting them listen to their doll’s heart, etc.). Extra time is included for talking about what to expect and developmental milestones to look for in the coming months.  Additionally, mom and dad have the time needed to have their questions answered and  have their concerns addressed.

Kids & Teens

Sports physicals, school physicals, and regular check-ups take place right in your own home.  I review your child’s medical history and discuss any concerns you may have.  Physical exams include measuring height, weight, vision screening, scoliosis screening (depending on age), and a complete head to toe check-up.  If your child or teen needs school or camp forms completed, that can be done as well. Time is given for both you and your child to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have. For adolescents and teens, special care is taken so they can receive care that is age appropriate without them feeling like they are a “little kid”.

Have a Sick Child or Teen?

If you have a sick child or teen, they can be seen right at home. A childhood illness can cause enough stress on the family without having to sit in an office. I see kids for fever, runny nose, cough, ear aches, and other pediatric illnesses. During the visit, we will discuss the history of your child’s illness, their past illnesses, and childhood allergies. Your child will receive a detailed examination and those findings will be reviewed with you. A treatment plan will be discussed thoroughly with you and any prescriptions will be sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice. While at your home, I am able to test for strep and for flu.  However, I am not able to test your child for Covid.
